The Threat of Federal Cuts:
Protecting Our Communities: Standing Against Federal Cuts to Essential Programs
As a candidate for Ulster County Legislature, I am deeply committed to advocating for the well-being of every resident in Highland and Esopus, especially our most vulnerable populations. Right now, one of the greatest challenges we face is the threat of federal budget cuts that could severely impact programs like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). These programs are a lifeline for millions of Americans, and any reduction in funding could leave our neighbors, friends, and family members without the support they rely on.
The Threat of Federal Cuts:
The current federal budget discussions include potential cuts to essential social safety nets that many in our community depend on to survive. Medicaid and Medicare provide healthcare access for our seniors, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities. Social Security offers economic security for retirees and people unable to work due to age or disability. And SNAP ensures that children and families have access to the food they need to thrive. Cutting these programs would put the most vulnerable at risk and make it harder for hardworking families to make ends meet.
How I Will Stand Up for You:
If elected, I will be a fierce advocate for protecting these essential programs and working to mitigate the impact of federal cuts. Here’s how I plan to take action:
1. Advocacy at the Local Level:
I will work with local leaders, organizations, and residents to build a coalition against federal cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP. Together, we can amplify our voices and raise awareness of the impact these cuts could have on our community.
2. Opposing Harmful Legislation:
I will introduce resolutions at the county level urging our state and federal representatives to oppose any cuts to these vital programs. While I may not have direct control over federal budgets, I will use my position to advocate on behalf of the people who rely on these services.
3. Public Awareness & Education:
I will lead efforts to raise awareness about how potential cuts could directly affect our community. By informing residents about the stakes—especially seniors, people with disabilities, and working families—we can empower them to join the conversation and push for change.
4. Championing Long-Term Solutions:
While protecting these programs, I will advocate for expansion and improvement of resources that address the growing needs of our community, especially healthcare, housing, and food security. We must push for policies that reflect the realities of our local communities.
Why It Matters:
These programs are not just policy issues—they are matters of human dignity. Cutting funding to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP would directly harm the elderly, low-income families, children, and people with disabilities—those who need it the most. Our community deserves a legislator who will fight for those who need help, not one who will allow them to be left behind.
As your representative, I will work tirelessly to protect these programs and advocate for policies that meet the needs of every member of our community.
Join Me in Protecting Our Future:
This fight isn’t just about preserving services—it’s about safeguarding our community’s future. Together, we can stand strong in support of Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP for all who depend on them.
If you agree that we need to protect these essential programs, I invite you to get involved today. Volunteer, spread the word, and help us build a coalition to support and protect our community.
